With so many new scouts this year, we elected to have our high adventure at Delaney Park in Southern Indiana. The park is a delightful little county facility located adjacent to the Knobstone Trail, a great training area for hikes at Philmont and the Appalachian Trail for Troop 183 in past years. There was fishing, hiking, swimming, dodging lightening bolts, lots of good food (except for the freeze dried lasagna) and great companionship. Have a look...
This frog was almost dinner the first night! Do you believe the size of this fellow?
One of the main attractions at Delaney Park is the lake which provided canoeing, swimming and fishing, not necessarily in that order as far as the boys were concerned.
Our hike on the Knobstone Trail was punctuated by snakes, nature lectures and here, a lunch break....
There was also a certain amount of just sittin' around....
Early morning was a good time for fishing... ...and catching! Some of the scouts just had fun holding a pole over the water and hoping something would come along... Every once in a while, something did, and on a few occasions, the fish were legal size and ended up as dinner! There was canoeing instruction on land... and at sea.... Of course there was the requisite cooking of fine food on occasion... Looks pretty good for freeze dried lasagna, doesn't it?
